CalTrain To Equip Locomotives with Ritron RCCR Radios

Carmel, Indiana - Ritron, Inc. June 22, 2013 reported that CalTrain, a California based passenger railway, has taken delivery of 57 of the U.S.A. made Ritron narrowband RCCR locomotive radios. The order included a mix of one - piece and two - piece models. The contract award was made to Ritron’s reseller, Day Wireless, with offices in Washington, Oregon and California.

CalTrain, headquartered in San Carlos, CA is a 79 mile California commuter rail line on the San Francisco peninsula, the line extends from San Francisco on the north to Santa Clara Valley (Silicon Valley) and Gilroy on the south. The radio purchase was in response to the FCC January 1, 2013 deadline requiring radio users to switch from wide band technology to narrow band or digital radio technology. The radio model purchased by CalTrain is also future upgradeable to the established Class 1 freight railroad standard, “NXDN” digital.

Ritron, Inc. is a privately held corporation located in Carmel, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis. Founded in 1977, the company specializes in the design and manufacture of a wide range of industrial-grade wireless communication products and systems.
